Wild Nature In Rio

Tropical Treasures And Favela Adventure

Our adventure with Rio’s wild face begins on the gentle waters of the lagoon. We glide silently so as not to startle the watchful caimans; capybaras lounge lazily on the banks, while snow-white herons and cormorants circle above the mirror-like surface. In this rocking hush we discover the invisible pulse of life.

When land is underfoot again, we enter the green cathedral of Tijuca National Park. The trail leads beneath steaming lianas; in the treetops toucans squawk, and coatis dart across the path like bronze flashes. Every breath smells of resin, moss and adventure.

In the afternoon, after a delicious lunch in a forest restaurant* we move on to the Vidigal favela. A mototaxi** climbs the favela’s serpentine lanes like a flame, and we – carried by the wind – pass colourful murals, children on the football pitch and the sounds of samba drifting from open windows. At the summit an ice-cold beer and a terrace await, where the city and ocean spread out into a shimmering mosaic of lights.

This is a journey that intertwines the gentle whisper of nature with the pulsating energy of Rio and stays under your skin forever.

You will see caimans, capybaras and numerous birds up close, and the cruise itself offers a chance to explore the extraordinary natural world hidden in the heart of this vibrant city. It is a journey full of surprises, perfect for lovers of nature and adventure.

Tijuca National Park

Track Down a Coati

You take your first step into the thicket, and the scent of damp earth mingles with the sound of distant waterfalls. Your eyes scan the leaves – perhaps a curious coati will soon emerge from behind a fern, or a brightly coloured toucan will flutter overhead. In Tijuca’s forest labyrinth, among palms, cedars, ironwoods and trees with exotic names like embaúba, ipê and jequitibá, playful capuchin monkeys lurk, and forest turtles may suddenly appear from the foliage. With luck, an armadillo or a swaying sloth might flash before your eyes. Set out at dawn, uncover hidden caves and ancient indigenous trails; no encounter is guaranteed, yet every step fuels the thrill of adventure.

Favela Vidigal

Adventure in the Favela

Vidigal, one of Rio de Janeiro’s largest favelas, clings to the slopes of the picturesque Two Brothers hill, offering splendid views of the Atlantic Ocean and the bustling city below. The favela resembles a small town within a vast metropolis. A maze of narrow, winding alleys and brightly painted houses weaves a vibrant tapestry of urban life, where residents daily demonstrate their resilience and creativity. This community bears witness to both hardship and the indomitable spirit of its people.
